HealthBeacon’s new CEO for North America, Laura Hamilton, hopes to strengthen ties between companies in Ireland and Boston.
This week, medical technology company HealthBeacon, headquartered between Dublin and Boston, hosted the Boston Irish Business Association (BIBA) and its 2019 trade mission delegation to the company’s Irish headquarters.
The trade mission was led by Cork-born Laura Hamilton, who is HealthBeacon’s new CEO of North American operations. In addition to leading the US branch of the company, Hamilton is also the current president of BIBA.
The Boston delegation’s visit to HealthBeacon was part of a journey through Belfast, Donegal, Derry, Dublin and Cork. The purpose of the trade mission is to examine the potential for transatlantic collaboration. It is hoped that the mission will bring together high-level American business leaders to develop and strengthen business relationships across Ireland.
BIBA delegates were treated to a site tour and product presentation at the HealthBeacon facility in Dublin, led by company co-founder Jim Joyce, also from Boston.
HealthBeacon develops smart tools for medication management. Its Smart Sharp Bin aims to make it easier for patients using injectable drugs to follow their treatment schedule and to allow caregivers to track a patient’s progress.
Ready for American Growth
Hamilton, who was born in Cork but raised in Boston, was instrumental in bringing BIBA to Ireland for the first time in 10 years.
âAfter years of planning and discussion, I am delighted to lead the BIBA trade mission to Ireland, particularly as the new CEO of HealthBeacon for the North American division,â said Hamilton.
âI have been closely associated with HealthBeacon for many years and admire the leadership, the team they have developed and the early successes achieved across Europe.
âThe company is poised to experience tremendous growth in North America by creating value in the healthcare ecosystem through unique global leading-edge technology to track patient adherence to injectable drugs. for chronic diseases.
To date, HealthBeacon’s platform has been used to track more than 300,000 injections in patients’ homes. The Smart Sharp Bin has been launched in 13 countries.
Joyce said, âI first met Laura over four years ago, when she was Director of Business Development at the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio) and President of BIBA. HealthBeacon is delighted to name a talented business innovator and welcome this important business mission to our Irish headquarters.
Since its inception in 2013, HealthBeacon has raised $ 15 million in funding. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to expand into Asia and the United States.
