HILLSBOROUGH, NJ – Hillsborough’s small businesses and female entrepreneurs were recently honored by the township.
Mayor Shawn Lipani read a proclamation honoring National Women’s Small Business Month during the Tuesday evening committee meeting.
In 1972, only 4.6% of American businesses were owned by women, compared to 42% today. That’s nearly 13 million women-owned businesses that employ 9.4 million people and generate more than $1.9 trillion in revenue, Lipani said.
Among those honored were Marisa Narula of Code Ninjas, Jayne Mochnacz of Super Sundaes and Lydia Imhauser of Industrial Tube Corporation.
“It is an honor to receive this proclamation from Mayor Lipani, EDC and small business advocate David Kois. Hillsborough has been such a warm and welcoming community to open a business in. Everyone in the township has always been very helpful and made himself available to us throughout the process. Not only is Hillsborough a ‘great place to live’ but it’s also a wonderful place to have a business!” Narula said.
Narula opened her business at 649 Route 206 in 2019.
Mochnacz opened Super Sundaes at 435 Amwell Rd. about 23 years ago.
“It’s amazing how much our city has changed in 23 years,” Mochnacz said. “I couldn’t really do my job if I didn’t have such a great group of people to support me, even with the changes we’ve been through during COVID. It’s wonderful to see so many people coming out to support us – not just us but our whole city.”
Imhauser is the fourth generation to own Industrial Tube Corporation at 293 Valley Rd.
“We’ve been in Hillsborough since the late ’60s. To see Route 206 go from a dirt road to what it is now is very amazing,” Imhauser said.
Hillsborough business advocate David Kois was particularly proud of all the businesses in the town.
“This month is all about these incredible women we have in the township who run and operate their businesses,” Kois said. “It is truly an honor and a privilege to work so closely with the various companies.”
